Workers at the “Ernesto Che Guevara” Nickel Company in Moa, Holguin, have contributed the equivalent of over US $3,000 to the Mother and Child Care Program (PAMI) being carried out in this north-eastern region.

Norge Acosta Campos, Secretary of the Labor Union in Moa, called the donation a result of solidarity and the effort made by workers at the factory in a difficult month for all Cubans, after the severe damage caused by hurricane Ike which paralyzed the industry for several days.
Workers at the Ernesto Che Guevara Nickel Industry, selflessly contribute monthly to PAMI program, in charge of guaranteeing the success of the pregnancy, childbirth, and the child’s first early years of life. The program began in the 1980s in the “Pedro Sotto Alba” Nickel Company in Moa.
Acosta noted that more than 99 percent of the workers have donated part of the hard currency incentive they received for the month of September 2008.
