The Cuba-Minas Gerais Business Meeting was inaugurated on Thursday in Havana aiming at increasing and diversifying bilateral trade relations between the Caribbean country and Brazil.

The President of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, Raul Becerra, said that after the visit to Cuba last January of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, there has been a sustained development of bilateral trade.
Minas Gerais, a southeast state of Brazil, is the second in importance in the South American nation – only after the state of Sao Paulo – regarding industrial production with very successful results in the textile, food and metallurgical industries.
During the opening ceremony of the Business Meeting on Thursday, the head of the Brazilian delegation, Petronio Machado, praised Cuba’s development in the health sector, particularly in the production of medicines. He also expressed their interest in strengthening ties in this area and in others such as energy and urban transportation.
