Cuban Grand Master (GM) Leinier Domínguez reached the 21st position in world chess ranking with a national record of 2719 ELO points, according to the list published last night by the World Chess Federation. Domínguez will retain this privileged position during the last trimester of the year.

There were also changes at the top of the list as Bulgarian Veselin Topalov (2791) made it to the first position after his resounding triumph at the Grand Slam Chess Final Masters. Russian Alexander Morozevich (2787) retained second position, while Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk (2786) and Norwegian wonder Magnus Carlsen (2786) went up to the third and fourth positions, respectively.
Following them are Indian Viswanathan Anand (2783), who fell from the first position, and Russian Vladimir Kramnik (2772). Curiously, the two of them will play for the world title in a few days in Germany.
Armenian Levon Aronian (2757), Azerbaijani Teimour Radjabov (2751), Hungarian Peter Leko (2747) and Russian Dmitry Jakovenko (2737) complete the top ten.
There are 32 chess players with 2700 ELO points or more, including eight Russians and one female: Hungarian Judit Polgar (2711).
For Cuba, there is another good piece of news. Cuban GM Lázaro Bruzón won 30 points and reached 2622 ELO points. It seems that he has left his bad times behind.
