Chucho and Bebo Valdes to Participate in 40th International Jazz Festival of Barcelona
"Juntos para siempre" (Together Forever) is the title of the concert that Bebo Valdés and his son Chucho will give on October 23rd at the city’s auditorium.

“This could be Bebo’s last international tour,” said the event’s artistic director Joan Anton Cararach, who added that Bebo will soon turn 90 years of age.

The festival’s program this time includes more than 60 live concerts, among them performances by U.S. artists Al Green, Chick Corea and John McLaughlin, guitarist George Benson, Mariza and Lambchop.

The jazz festival will run for 42 days, marking the event’s 42nd anniversary. There will be activities in 15 different spots.

Al Green’s performance is set for October 30th and on November 9th, Brad Mehldau and Joshua Redman Duet will present a special program commissioned by the organizers of the festival.

On November 4th, there will be a recital to pay tribute to Argentinean Astor Piazzolla. It will feature Enrique Moratalla, the group Versus Ensemble and singer Horacio Ferrer.

George Benson will have his debut at the Palau of Music on November 15th and three days later, on the 18th, Chick Corea and John McLaughlin will perform, for the first time, with the Five Peace Band.

Adriana Calcanhotto will give a concert on November 7th and on the 19th, Mariza will present pieces from her latest CD.

On November 24th, the spectacular Lambchop will have their turn on stage.

The list of artists at the 40th International Jazz Festival of Barcelona includes the Vella Dixieland, Herbie Hancock Quintet, Matthew Herbert Big Band, Pegasus and Omar Sosa. Besides the concerts and recitals, the event’s program will also include jam sessions and conferences.
