Cuba hit by Hurricane Ike after midnight

Hurricane Ike, now category 3 hit the coasts of Cuba just 8 days after Gustav hit the country in the Isle of Youth and Pinar del Rio creating a new record of two consecutive hurricanes for the country.
Authorities in the island report that more than a million people have been evacuated to secure areas, tourist in coastal resorts have been evacuated also to the east of the country or to secure locations.
In Havana police and Civil Defence vehicles with loudspeakers passed through the streets urging people to take steps to protect their property. There are long lines of people in commerces and supermarke, while trucks and other vehicles are removing debris and garbage from the streets.
