Council of Ministers Executive Secretary Carlos Lage Davila said on Wednesday that Cuba has a modern network of drugstores that helps to reduce the deficit of drugs in pharmacies.

During a visit to a drugstore in western Pinar del Rio province, Lage pointed out that the measures taken nationwide to improve that recently-created system include the consolidation of production, construction of warehouses, refrigeration and transportation, among other factors.
He called to improve quality control of medications, and noted that medicines are supplied to all pharmacies in the province, including stores in mountainous areas, on a weekly basis, and to hospitals every day.
Remodeling works at Pinar del Rio"s drugstores cost over 600,000 pesos, including 382,000 dollars.
The system, which operates around the clock, guarantees the rapid reception, storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals, and in the case of Vueltabajo, urgent orders from hospitals are filled in less than six hours.
