Las Tunas Helps to Protect Largest Hydrographic Basin of Cuba
Specialists of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) told Tiempo21 that some 70 percent of the waste produced by the sugar industry, the cattle company and a swinish center of the municipality of Majibacoa, is being used to irrigate and to fertilize the sugar-cane plantation and other cultivations.

Among the protection actions are also includeed the use of certain residual matters for the production of biogas that guarantees fuel and electricity to several families that live in forest farms.

Although the use of the generated waste in this region is still very low, the efforts and the results in that sense agree with the Cuban National Environmental Strategy, guided to defend the health of the environment, to save foreign currencies and energy, was well as to develop the economy of the country.
