The prestigious Indian university Islamic Jamia Milia paid tribute over the weekend to outstanding film maker Tomas Gutierrez Alea with the screening of several of his films in a packed theatre.

Language Faculty dean, Sonia Gupta, explained the significance of Cuban cinema in the context of the Revolution. She also referred to the critique issued by Cuban film makers in relation to shortcomings of their society, which proves the false statements by those who say that criticism is not practiced in Cuba.
Memorias del subdesarrollo (Memories of Underdevelopment), La muerte de un burócrata (Death of a Bureaucrat), La ultima cena (The Last Supper) and Fresa y Chocolate (Strawberry and Chocolate), were the films screened at the Indian university to honor the departed and outstanding Cuban film maker, also known as Titon.
