The exhibit´s curators were Roberto Cobas, an expert with the Havana-based National Museum of Fine Arts, and Mexican Jorge Contreras. The exhibit comprises more than 80 works, including pieces borrowed from private owners, as well as others belonging to the collections of the Contemporary Art Museums of Chicago and Paris.
On hand during the opening ceremony was a large Cuban delegation, made up of Moraima Clavijo, Director of the National Museum of Fine Arts; Rubén del Valle Lantarón, President of the National Council on Fine Arts attached to the Ministry of Culture; Vivian Martínez Tabares, Cultural Counselor at the Cuban embassy and Eulogio Rodríguez, Cuban Consul General in Monterrey. Lam´s grandnephew Juan Castillo Sánchez was also very instrumental in setting up the exhibit.
Together with the retrospective of Wilfredo Lam´s works –on display until November- Marco inaugurated back in May an exhibit of works by Tomás Sánchez, who will also offer there a painting workshop this week. Therefore, we could say that the museum is very much devoted these days to promoting Cuban arts.
