Five gold, 11 Silver and 12 Bronze is the harvest of medals made by Latin American and Caribbean sportspeople in 10 Olympic journeys in the Chinese capital.

Athletes of Cuba, Jamaica, Brazil, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Chile have been the nations which have climbed the podium.
From this total, one gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze went to Cuban athletes. These were won in Greco-roman wrestling (m), three judo women silver and one bronze, silver in cycling, disk. One bronze in women´s rifle three positions at 50 meters, bronze in women´s judo over 78 kg, long jump, judo men in 66 kg and over 100 kg.
Runners from Jamaica like Usain Bolt, who set Olympic and world records in 100 meters and Shelly Ann Frazier also of Jamaica and in the same distance were the most publicized victories up to now.
But more are sure to come in track and field for the region, as well as in collective sports like baseball, volleyball and soccer before the Games are over.
