Cuba Hosts The technical executive secretariat of the Petrocaribe Ag Council

The technical executive secretariat of the Petrocaribe Agriculture Ministers Council is having its first meeting in Havana to discuss the constitutive documents of the organization.

That council includes Nicaragua, Honduras, Surinam, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Cuba, representing the 18 Petrocaribe member nations, Granma newspaper reported.

The daily states that within the Council's responsibilities is to draw up and propose a Food Security Treaty, as well as a mechanism to administrate the Oil Fund to the production of food.

Such finance will be also used in agricultural innovation and its integral development plans in countries participating in this mechanism, as part of the strategy to face the food crisis and global rise in food prices.

The creation of this Council enhances cooperation among peoples, under solidarity principles of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), the publication noted.
