In Swiss Chess Event Cuban Finishes Second

The first two 15-minute matches each failed to break the tie, as did the first 5-minute match. Finally Dominguez lost to Alekseev in 44 moves.

In the 10th and final round, Dominiguez (2,708 ELO rating) lost to France’s Etienne Bracot (2,691) to finish with 6.5 points. The loss, combined with Alekseev’s (2,708) win over local Yannick Pelletier (2,569) caused a tie at the top. According to the rules a winner is determined by way of speed matches.

Behind the leaders in the tournament standings were: Magnus Carlsen of Norway (6 points); Bacrot 5.5; Alexander Onischuk (US) 4, and Pelletier, 1.5.
