Cuban results on the introduction of macrobiotic diets were presented by Dr. Carmen Porrata, head of the Carlos J. Finlay Institute project in this matter, at the First Macrobiotic Diets Congress, underway in Equatorial Guinea.

Dr. Porrata introduced five macrobiotic diets called MA-PI that are basically based on cereals and vegetables, which, besides the fact that they are nutritionally safe, are easy to prepare and economically viable.
This kind of diet tends to achieve a long term balance in the body, with a loss of body weight without side effects, bringing benefits to asthma and diabetes patients.
This Congress, the first of its kind, was organized by the Italian Professor Mario Pianessi, the main promoter of this diet system, under the sponsorship of Guinean President Teodoro Obiang, reported the Cuban Foreign Affairs website.
Afterwards, Dr. Porrata met with the Cuban Ambassador, Victor Dreke and other Cuban officials, whom she thanked for their cooperation in Cuba 's participation in this event.
