A retrospective of the Cuban painter Wifredo Lam will be exhibited in Mexico
In an exclusive statement to Prensa Latina, curator Roberto Cobas explained that it covers Lam´s creative stage from 1925 until 1976 and is made up by cloth, drawings, paintings on kraft paper and engravings.

It is a joint Project between the Mexican museum and the Cuban Arts Museum , that will take part with 69 pieces, among them El Tercer Mundo (1965), one of Lam most famous works (image).

Some paintings belong to the Castillo – Vazquez family and some others to some French collectors.

Mexican public will be able to appreciate eight engravings from the portfolio El último viaje del buque fantasma, made by the painter in 1976, for a story of Gabriel García Márquez.

The exhibition includes part of the Works he made during his academia formation, among them El retrato de Eulalia Soliño, an oil painting on cloth made in 1931.

The collection is completed with a number of paintings on kraft paper made in the 40´s and clothes made in the 50´s. The exhibition will be opened until the 9 of November.

This will be a special and unique project, indicated Cobas, who also added that its opening in Monterrey will coincide with another exhibition dedicated to the Cuban Tomas Sanchez.

Wifredo Lam died in September 1982 and is considered one of the greatest plastic Latin American artists of the XX century.
