In spite of the US economic blockade and other objective difficulties, the Cuban state guarantees the national production of a significant number of medicines needed by the country’s population with an ongoing program of investments.
Speaking to the members of the Commission of Industries and Construction of the Cuban Parliament on Tuesday, Deysi Pineda Sanchez, Vice Minister of the Basic Industry, referred to the negative impact that Washington’s economic, financial and trade blockade has on this sector, which significantly limits Cuba’s access to the international market of raw materials with better prices.
Pineda Sanchez recalled that Cuba produces 557 different types of medicines, including 421 produced by the national chemical- pharmaceutical industry.
During a tour around the MEDSOL factory for the production of medicines in Havana, the parliamentarians learned about the system of distribution of medicines, its control and extension to the national system of hospitals.
The 12 permanent working commissions of the Cuban National Assembly (Parliament), constituted with a provisional nature last May, were in session on Monday and Tuesday at Havana’s Convention Center.
Each commission discussed specific topics related to the social and economic life of the country.
