Sugarcane companies in Holguin finished the spring season planting more than 6,000 hectares of sugarcane, a result that places the province among the best in Cuba.

Farm workers in the eastern province surpassed projected levels by six percent for the January to June period, which will be harvested in 2009.
The seven entities in charge of sugarcane cultivation in the province of Holguin completed their respective commitments for planting, a priority area as the country tries to recover its sugarcane industry.
The Urbano Noris group produced the best results in the province, planting more than 2,800 hectares.
The Holguin sugar industry also produced 150,000 tons of sugar during the 2007/08 harvest, remarkable growth in comparison with the previous one.
