Wood-Carving Festival, the only Cuban event in which creators are summoned to carve wooden pieces live.
The jury highlighted the formal solution and good finishing of the young mans proposal; a work centered in the human need of dialoguing.

Alexei Castillo Reyes, also an amateur artist, was awarded with the Second Price for a title-less piece, outstanding for its rhythmic recreation and structural complexity; meanwhile "The annunciation", by artist Roberto Hernández Tello, was awarded with the Third Prize.

The closure of the festival was an excellent occasion for other artists and institutions to grant collateral awards and to enjoy the performing of the Camagüey Folkloric Ballet Company Orchestra.

Rafael Queneditt Morales, President of the Wood-Carving Section of the Cuban Artisans Association, considered the event as a conjunction of strength, creativity, solidarity and vitality of those who accepted the 5 days of heavy work challenge and yielded works of undoubtedly artistic value in the end.

Midas Gallery, main office of the local Artisans Association, will host the sample of around 80 works that competed in the Festival until next June, as well as the seven big format sculptures exhibited, a novelty introduced for this edition.

The Festival de la Carcoma started in 2001 as a yearly event but soon changed to an every-two-years frequency. It has become a well expected and recognized event not only by local artists and population but also byguest artists as well.
