Ciego de Ávila, Cuba has decreased to almost two thirds the highest indexes of the consumption of fuels
The decrease in the use of domestic kerosene and alcohol has meant a great contribution to this saving effort in which the country is engaged. After the delivery of new kitchen appliances, 688 709 litres of kerosene and 154 922 litres of alcohol were saved monthly, while the use of liquefied gas was reduced by 234 307 litres.

At present, the population of Ciego de Ávila receives only 38,7 percent of those elements, out of the total received at the beginnings of 2006, when the delivery started of ovens and pots with high electric efficiency to more than 146 000 families.

These saving figures will be more significant as long as the grids modernization program advances, and a higher number of houses may be benefited, which represents well-being for the local residents, less energy losses in the distribution process and less harm to the environment.

The state sector in the province puts into practice several programs aiming at economize fuels, among them, the one related to the substitution of 37 800 fluorescent lamps of 40 watts, for similar lamps of 32, which saves about three megawatts in the hours of most electric demand.

Other considerable results regarding the saving of fuel have to do with the re-motorization of 60 ZIL-130 trucks that are efficiently functioning now with diesel, instead of gasoline.
