The festival, sponsored by the Young Communist League of the province, gives the chance to display the artistic work of children and youths inspired by the films previously screened in these recreational centres.

Erasmo Fonseca, Director of the VCJ project in Holguin, told AIN that this time it will be presenting painting exhibitions, musical works, plays and dance as well as video debates.

The event, which will run until May 30, also includes lectures on the life of José Martí, National Hero of Cuba, cultural debates and educational talks on topics of interest to the community, such as sexually transmitted diseases, smoking and the care for the environment.

The Community Video Clubs were created in Cuba in 2005 for the purpose of encouraging peoples enjoyment of films, mainly in children and young people.

By the end of May, over 150,000 people from Holguin will have attended the 24 video clubs operating in this province./ Karina Escalona Peña
