In statements to Prensa Latina news agency, Astiasarán highlighted the organization of the event by the National Committee and the five committees in each of the five venues: Puerto Plata, La Vega, San Pedro de Macorís, San Juan de la Maguana and Barahona, which he stressed "turned the fair into a Cuban culture fiesta.
The Cuban diplomat noted that the fair was dedicated to the five Cuban political prisoners unjustly held in US prisons for nearly a decade now for fighting terrorism. In that sense, he praised the countless solidarity activities with the Cuba Five -as they are known internationally" in the five Dominican cities that served as the fairs venues.
He referred also to the enthusiastic participation of the solidarity with Cuba organizations, provincial and municipal authorities and social, religious and academic institutions.
The fairs program in the city of Barahona, located 200 kilometers of the Capital, Santo Domingo, included other artistic activities such as a season of Cuban films.
The representatives from the 15 Cuban publishing houses that participated also thanked the Dominican people for their support, which they termed as decisive and described the book fair as a complete success.
