Provincial Movement of the Red Cross Strengthen in Las Tunas, Cuba

Consecutive lectures on Humanitarian International Law (HIL) and more than a dozen of work agreements to negotiate services and to incorporate volunteers from state ministries and Non-Governmental Organizations in Las Tunas, are some of the actions to strengthen the work of the Red Cross in this eastern province of Las Tunas.

Students from the Medical School Zoilo Marinello, representatives from the Medical Brigade Henry Reeves, military troops and people from other state institutions have participated in conferences on the origin, the principles and the main norms of the HIL.

Children from the Primary Teaching, between 10 to 11 years old, are members of the group Quarries, in which they will receive humanitarian training and on the programs of assitance of the Cuban Red Cross, such as in aquatic security, as well as on aid during natural disasters or caused by the man.

The Provincial Association for the Blind, the Deaf, and the Association for People with Disabilities established commitments for the training of their members and their personnel.

The Young Communist League (UJC), the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), the Provincial Direction of Education and Higher Education, confirmed their will of training volunteers to maintain and to diffuse the medullary principles of the movement: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, will, unity, and universality.

Also, the Civil Registration, the offices of Identity Card, Immigration and Alienage and the movement of Amateur Radio, showed interest and accepted to collaborate in the reestablishment of the family knots broken by armed or tense political conflicts, natural disasters and other social situations.

The Cuban Society of the Red Cross, founded in March 1909, is a society of auxiliary aid of the public powers, recognized by the International Committee of Red Cross, and among its main actions are the reestablishment of family knots, programs of assitance, projects of collaboration, the aid, the zeal for the aquatic security, the support to the special programs of health, the diffusion of the humanitarian international law, and the traning.
