Vice President Esteban Lazo heads the Cuban delegation to the summit "Food Crisis and Security in Latin America and the Caribbean" that takes place on Wednesday in Managua, Nicaragua.
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega called the summit to discuss joint solutions to face the crisis triggered by soaring prices of foodstuffs on the world market and its impact on developing countries.
The summit was preceded by a meeting on April 26 of Agricultural ministers from Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean, also held in Managua.
Leaders of countries participating in the Bolivarian Alternative to the Americas (ALBA), PetroCaribe and Central America are expected to attend the summit.
