Holguin, Cuba: Special Day of Support for Sugarcane Harvest

This initiative was implemented by the labour union of this sector to exploit the optimum period of sugar production in Cuba.
The province of Holguin has one of the largest sugarcane growing areas on the island that keeps workers of the sector working intense days to raise the production levels of sugar. Holguin has actually surpassed the 100,000 metric tons of sugar, a figure also reached by other provinces of the country.
Osmani Moreno, member of the provincial Sugar Union, stressed that agro-industrial companies will shortly have support from other territories that will contribute to increase the supply of cane to the sugar mills. The "Urbano Noris" sugar mill of Holguin, "Uruguay" in Sancti Spíritus and "Antonio Guiteras", in Las Tunas are among the main producers of sugar in Cuba.
The sugar harvest, that began last December in Holguin, has almost nine thousand workers directly linked to the production.
