The Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) increases its film productions
Speaking with AIN news agency, Nieto affirmed that ICAIC is currently immersed in the production of some 20 feature films, eight of which are scheduled to be completed and premiered this year.

He mentioned some titles, among them the fiction films 'Kangamba (one of ICAICs largest productions), 'Rojo vivo, 'Los dioses rotos, 'El cuerno de la abundancia, 'Te espero en la eternidad and the documentary 'Destinos.

Nieto explained that documentaries and animated films have gradually gained in importance here in Cuba and pointed to 'Meñique, an animated film that is currently in the production stage.

Activities to mark the new anniversary of ICAIC included the granting of the National Film Prize to filmmaker and cartoonist Juan Padrón, whose animated films reflect Cubas history and the main characteristics of the Cuban people. Other activities include also the launching of the latest issue of the 'Cine Cubano magazine and the book 'Un pez que huye written by literary critic Rufo Caballero, as well as the result of a study on Latin American film.

Nieto announced that the 4th Film Festival in the Mountains will be held in April, while the 1st Workshop 'Equity and Violence in the Media is set to begin on March 31st parallel to a season of films.
