2009 Cuban book fair as guest of honour Violeta Parra, Víctor Jara and Chile
This was stated to the press by the Cuban minister of Culture, Abel Prieto, who remembered Parra as a figure with a strong mark in the work of the founders of the Nueva Trova Movement in Cuba, Silvio Rodríguez and Pablo Milanés, who pay her a devoted tribute.

About Jara he emphasised in his exceptional values and his condition as an art symbol in front of the fascism that killed him.

The links between the two nations are long and emotional. The two Chilean Nobel Price winners, Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda, interweaved the aroma of the national letters to which they pervade with their fragrance. Both personalities visited Cuba several times.

The itinerary of Mistral in Cuba was exhaustively researched and documented by the journalist Amelia Roque in her book Con espuma de señales. Gabriela Mistral y Cuba, presented in the 2008 book fair and instantly sold out.

Prieto indicated that the 2009 Fair will reprint the most important titles of the Chilean authors published by Casa de las Américas in its rich editorial history.

We believe that Chile will play a great role in this party of spirit and intellect, specified the minister after adding that some initial ideas have been already discussed with Reinaldo Lacámara Calaf, president of the Writers Society of that south American country and with Emilio Lamarca, Cultural director of the Chilean Foreign Office.
