Presented in Cuba: A Book on Graphic Humor
This occasion also served to present the book Historia del humor gráfico en Cuba (The history of graphic humor in Cuba), both events sponsored by the Fundación General de la Universidad de Alcalá de Henares (General Foundation from the University of Alcalá de Henares) (FGUAH in Spanish), from Spain.

"Quijotazos was announced in 2004 in memory of the 400th anniversary of El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha (Don Quixote de la Mancha), written by Miguel de Cervantes. After going all over Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Colombia, the exhibition will reach Cuba," explained Juan García, director of the Humor Department of FGUAH, to the staff of JR (Juventud Rebelde) and to guests caricature drawers.

From a contemporary viewpoint, graphic humorists from 32 countries illustrated the character created by Cervantes from the need to preserve the environment, the opposition to the war of United States in Iraq and the social impact of the new technologies, among other topics.

Arsenio Lope Huerta, president of the FGUAH, expressed that for that institution culture has a special attention that is seen in the fact that they also promoted the Spanish edition of Historia del humor gráfico en Cuba, by Arístides Esteban Hernández (ARES) and Jorge Alberto Piñero (JAPE). That piece will also see soon its Cuban edition.

The text, which belongs to the collection of Historia del Humor Gráfico (History of Graphic Humor), published by Editorial Milenio in collaboration with the FGUAH, deals with the history of the genre in the country, based in a consequent assimilation of previous researches and highlighting names and moments in the evolution of humor drawing.

This important material places Cuba in the seventh place among the Spanish speaking countries with similar published books, whose aim is to make an encyclopedia of graphic humor from the area.
