Scorpion Poison for Medicinal Purposes in Las Tunas, Cuba
The center in charge of that work counts on more than one thousand scorpions for the extraction of poison, and at the moment the specialists obtained some 140 milliliters of toxin, quantity that could reach about a liter, with the increase of about five thousand scorpions in captivity this year.

A wire from the Cuban News Agency points out that for more than two decades Cuba has studied and applied a prepared medication with the poison of the blue scorpion dissolved in a certain quantity of distilled water that has demonstrated its effects to fight cancer, and it is effective mainly in tumors and affections of the central nervous system.

This poison is also beneficial in other lung tumors, neck of the uterus, prostate and pancreas, besides possessing analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.

In order to consolidate the research and the application of this therapeutic method, in the 14 Cuban provinces there are hatcheries of scorpions, belonging to the Managerial Group LABIOFAM.

Cuba works to increase the production of the poison and to face better the internal necessities and the demands abroad, once the product be definitively patented.
