Casa Award to defend of true literature, the artistic tradition of Latin America
Defense of true literature, the artistic tradition of Latin America and the durability of books was the message of the famous Chilean poet Gonzalo Rojas, during the official opening ceremony of the Casa de las Américas Award.

In his opening discourse in the venue of the institution, the writer warned on the dangers of neo-liberal globalization on culture, whose computerization is banishing books, a true treasure of humanity and with a millenary trajectory, since the appearance of the papyrus in the ancient world.

In his speech, as a verse, filled with humor and irony, Rojas recalled the indisputable work of Latin American authors, who reflect the history of thi continent in their texts, and he exhorted "to read until tired" in order to presser literature in this era and in the future ones.

The author of the phrase "America is home" was accompanied, on this occasion, for around twenty intellectuals in charge of evaluating around 500 originals competing from around 24 countries, Abel Prieto, Cuban minister for culture, Ricardo Alarcón, president of our country's parliament as well as other creators from the region.

In declarations to the press, Prieto stated that the Casa Award constitutes a prize to authentic artistic creation, because it is not subject to market interests, not like other in the current literary world.

He highlighted that that award is known and desired by the authors, because it is a title that implies a lot of prestige in American writings, apart from having almost half a century of uninterrupted existence.

The Casa Award will be on until next 31st and its program includes encounters with writers, concerts, book presentations and plastic arts exhibitions.
