A cold spell coming from the North pole has caused a drop of temperatures in the western and central regions of Cuba, but the record on lowest degrees remain untouched, said expert.

In statements to Juventud Rebelde newspaper, Miguel Angel Hernandez, with the Meteorology Institute explained that the cold air mass is moving along the eastern coast of the United States and is also affecting parts of Mexico.

The expert said though temperatures were very low last Thursday and Friday, they did not break the record of 0.6 Celsius degrees reported in Bainoa, Havana Province in February 10, 1996.
