Landings exhibition catalogue to be presented
The Landings catalogue was presented at the Casa de las Américas. This is an artistic project conceived and designed by the artist and promoter from Cataluña, who lives in Belize, Joan Duran. His main purpose has been to favor the knowledge and screening, on a Latin American and international level, of the art from the Central American and Caribbean countries, as well as from the Mexican Southeastern region, through the work of emerging artists from these areas.

Landings will include a total of ten editions, to be celebrated in different cities of the world. Without responding to a specific theme or curator axis, each presentation is organized according to the characteristics of every site where the project is to be set, taking into account the general context as well as the characteristics of the space or building to occupy. In January 2009, Landings 10 will have its last edition at the MEIAC, the Contemporary Art Museum from Badajoz, Spain.

Since last November 16th, 2007, people may enjoy Landings 7 at the Haydeé Santamaría Gallery from the Casa de las Américas, under the coordination of the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center. The arranged platform has been conceived from the placement of sun panels that take up the area of the front of the Gallery. Another group of panels will be placed in the roof of the building, aiming to achieve enough power to generate the energy with which the pieces will work.

The project works as a site specific intervention, a very popular modality in contemporary art. Basically, it distinguishes the importance of the natural potential of solar energy, in contrast with the use of electric energy, which is used by the technological equipments used in the presentation of Landings 6, a project that is taking place in parallel at the Latin American Gallery, also organized for this same occasion.

The honorable Mr. Joan Duran held contact for the first time with the Wifredo Lam Center during the Second Havana Biennale (1986) and since then he has maintained links of mutual collaboration with different Cuban institutions and specialists. He is a representative in Havana as a Cultural Attaché from Belize.
