New Cuban Childrens Music CD Presented
A new CD of traditional childrens song performed by talented young Cuban artists was released Sunday at the Cantándole al Sol Childrens Song Festival

The album, named Chiquilín, is the most recent release of the EGREM record company and was presented in Havana at the Kart Marx Theater.

A group of talented young musicians got together to record Chiquilin (litle child), a CD full of nostalgic childrens songs. The disk was presented yesterday at the Cantándole al Sol (Singing to the sun) Childrens Song Festival. The album is an attempt to recover childrens songs that were very popular a few decades ago and that are part of Cuban culture today. On the albums 13 tracks, some of the most popular childrens songs "sung to modern rhythms" will bring back memories to adult listeners while introducing these works to young people.

Among the songs compiled on the CD are Drume negrita (Sleep little black girl), written by Eliseo Negret and performed by David Álvarez, who was also in charge of the selection of performers for the recording.

Another track is Silvio Rodriguezs hugely popular Balada de Elpidio Valdés (Elpidio Valdes Theme), sung this time by Arnaldo Rodríguez of Arnaldo y su Talismán fame.

Other songs included are Dónde está la cutara (Where is the slipper?), by Enriqueta Almanza and Celia Torriente, sung to a cha-cha-cha beat by William Vivanco and others.

The family-aimed CD, notable for its variety of style and rhythm, is a creation that will not leave any child indifferent; and why not? - many adults will fall under its spell too.
