Cuba's judo expert Oreidis Despaigne came home from his tour of Asia with one silver and two bronze medals, which makes him one of the island's favorites for the coming Beijing 2008 Olympics.

Despaigne, 100 kilo champ in Rio 2007 Pan American Games, got his ticket to the Beijing 2008 Olympics by winning bronze in the World Judo 2007 Championship also held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

More recently, the judoka conquered the second place in the Seventh Qingdao International Judo Tournament held in that Chinese city on November 21-26. Next on the tour of Asia, Despaigne won five combats by ippon and lost one to finish third at the Jigoro Kano Cup International Judo Tournament held in Japan on December 8 and 9.

According to coach Justo Noda, Oreidis Despaigne and fellow team members Yordanis Arencibia (66 kg silver in the Rio World Cup), and Oscar Braison (+100kg gold in Qingdao and still trying to win a ticket to Beijing) have the best chances for medals in the coming Olympic Games.
