Cuban cyclists got excellent results at the World Cycling Cup, a qualifying event for the Olympic Games in Beijing next year.

During the first phase of the competition, held in Sydney, Australia, Yumari Gonzalez gave Cuba the gold medal in the scratch modality.

Lisandra Guerra, for her part, finished second in the 500-meter time trial individual race, clocking 34.058 seconds and setting a national record for that kind of event.

Yumari also finished fifth, along with two-time world medalist Yoanka González and Yudelmis Domínguez, in the 3-km pursuit race by teams.

In order to compete in the Beijing Olympics, cyclists must lead the Cup ranking or finish among the ten first cyclists at the World Championship in Manchester.
