The curator of Havana's Wilfredo Lam Art Gallery, Pepe Fernandez, is in Kenya to fulfill cultural accords between that East African nation and Cuba.

Fernandez is leading the preparation of the 10th Bienal de la Habana
(Havana Biennial), an exhibition of contemporary art from five
continents that has, since its inception, provided Cuban artists with
increased visibility and access to the international art world.

During his stay, Fernandez is meeting with top local representatives of the fine arts and touring art galleries and exhibition halls in
Nairobi, such as the National Museum and the non-profit Kuona Trust
established on the museum's grounds in 1995.

As part of his work agenda, the Cuban curator will also visit the French Alliance and give a lecture at the University of Nairobi on Thursday. One of the positive outcomes of the meeting has been an
exhibit of Cuban art currently on display at the 3rd Eastern Africa
Biennial, in Tanzania. Fernandez will also take part in Kenya's Visual
Arts Festival.
