The Memoriam to Santiago Alvarez 9th International Documentary Film Festival will be held in this city from March 6 to 11, organizing sources announced.
A reflective look of this film genre will focus on a theoretical analysis and Spain is the special guest.
There will be a Grand Prize named after the famous Cuban documentary director and three other main awards will be given to recognize specialties in direction, script, edition, photography and sound track.
Also acknowledged are the best first works of filmmakers under 35 years of age while the International school of Films and Television of San Antonio de los Baños will offer a scholarship for the international workshop on documentaries.
Other awards to be given are under the auspices of the Santiago Alvarez Office of the Cuban Institute of Art and Film Industry (ICAIC), the Amazonia Films Foundation and the Telesur television channel.
Documentary filmmakers from five continents have participated in these yearly events, held in homage of the memory a master of the documentary in Latin America, with a rich and original legacy that survived his death in March of 1998.
