Cuba  beat Venezuela 10-0 on Sunday at World Cup

Favourites Cuba maintained their 100-per-cent record at the 37th baseball World Cup in Taiwan by beating Venezuela 10-0 on Sunday.

Meanwhile home team Taiwain suffered their first loss, but the 9-5 defeat against Mexico did not harm their chances of making the quarter-finals.

In other afternoon games, Italy beat South Africa 8-0, Australia edged South Korea 2-1, Canada trounced the Netherlands 7-1, Japan downed Panama 6-2, the United States defeated Spain 12-2 and Germany humiliated Thailand 2-0.

On Monday, the the players will take a day off and will resume the preliminaries on Tuesday.

The 16-team World Cup opened on Wednesday and runs until November 18, with the games played at four stadiums in Taipei and Taichung. Sixteen teams are participating in the biannual event staged by the International Baseball Federation.
