Carnival returns to Varadero after years of absence
Specialists from the Cuban Music Institute announced last week that the world famous tourist resort of Varadero, in central Matanzas province, will be hosting the Carnival 2007 event during the first three weekends of December.

After several years of absence, the Carnival returns to Varadero as a result of recent accords between the island's Culture and Tourism ministries aiming at consolidating the development of the cultural product of Cuba's main tourist resort.

The director of the Cuban Music Institute in Matanzas, Reynaldo Domínguez, told reporters that foreign tourists as well as the inhabitants of Varadero, Santa Marta, Cárdenas and other neighboring cities and towns will be able to enjoy a very rich cultural event with talented and renowned artists.

Dominguez added that the Carnival will join the varied cultural offer of Varadero that also includes the Festival of Popular Songs, in June 2008, and the recently held Jam Session international jazz festival.
