Some of the Cuban judokas that competed in the recently closed 25th World Judo Championship in this Brazilian city have qualified for the Beijing Olympic Games, the head of the Cuban delegation, Gustavo Diaz, announced Monday.

Shortly before returning to his country, Diaz stated he was pleased with the performance of the Cuban judokas, and revealed that five of them will continue to the Beijing Olympics.

They are multi-champion Driulis Gonzalez, from the 63 kg division, Yuricel Laborde (78 kg), Yordanis Arencibia (66 kg), Yanet Bermoy (48 kg), and Oreidy Despaigne (100 kg).

Cuba, he added, was able to position eight athletes among the first in the world ranking, and was fourth among the 26 countries with medals.
