New ophthalmological facilities in Camagüey

Health services in the eastern Cuban province of Camagüey have benefited from the opening of new ophthalmological facilities to operate on patients.

An eye clinic was inaugurated in the provincial capital, where 3,522 patients have been operated on from January to date.

Eye surgery is mainly used to treat patients suffering from cataract and glaucoma.

Camagüey may become a national referral center to train ophthalmologists, due to the high level of the medical staff and the cutting-edge technology installed in local clinics.

The province has 44 ophthalmologists, 24 doctors who are receiving training at the institution, and 63 residents in the Cuban Ophthalmological Faculty in Havana.
