Cuba wins the Pan American Youth Championship

Unbeaten in its six contests, the Cuban team won the PanAMerican Youth Championship (17-18 years) in Ixtapa, Mexico, and responsed with the confidence they were entrusted.

The youth, managed by Esteban Lombillo, have again disputed in a large national championship. Together as the national pre-team, they took part in first level championships in Havana and matched with the teams lined up for the Pan American Games in Rio, the one that played in Rotterdam and the one which travelled to Italy, all of them winners of their dates.

The great results are the consequences of great preparation. On Sunday, the unbeaten Cuban team beat the up-to-then unbeaten Mexico 7-0. For the bronze medal, the United States defeated Canada, 6-2,. The four teams will be in the World Championship 2008, to be held in Canada.

Classification: 1. Cuba (6-0); 2. Mexico (5-1); 3. USA (4-2); 4. Canada (3-3); 5. Puerto Rico (3-2); 6. Venezuela (2-2); 7. Aruba (2-3); 8-9. Nicaragua and Panama (1-3); 10-11. Bahamas (0-4) and El Salvador (0-4).

Individual Prizes

Freddy Asiel Alvarez, winner in the matches against Canada and the United States, was designated Most Valuable Placer, reported Jesus Suarez Valmaña.

Yozzen Cuesta and Dayan Viciedo were number one in batting and assisting runs with figures of .667 and 8, respectively.

James Ryan Weber (US), was leader in the average of clean runs (0.00,a higher number of innings pitched than Cubas Onelkis Garcia and Mexicos Angel Mundo); Kile Skipworth (US) in homeruns (1), and Arthur Arends, from Aruba, first is stolen runs with three.
