Cuban rowers in Germany for World Championship in Munich

Training along with Marrero in the German city is team partner in the light double category(2x), Yaima Velasquez, who finished 8th in the single category in the Austria Cup.

The third member of the team is heavy single rower Mayra Gonzalez, who placed 7th in the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Accompanying the women squad are male rowers Eyder Batista and Yunior Perez, in the light double pair, and Yoennis Hernandez, Janier Concepcion, Angel Fournier and Yulieski Cascaret, in the heavy four pair (4x).

Heading the delegation is Norge Marrero, president of the Cuban Rowing Federation, and coaches Alcides Risco, Juan Carlos Reyes and Nelson Simon, and team doctor Armando Llera.

In the recently held Pan-American Games in Brazil, Cuba took first place for countries, with Marrero-Velazquez (2x), Gonzalez, Batista-Perez and Hernandez, Concepcion, Fournier and Cascaret (2x), winning gold medals respectively.

According to the Munich World Championships website, nearly 1,300 rowers with 500 boats, have signed on to participate in the event, an attendance record.
