Maraguán continues its highly-successful tour across Europa
The Camagüey-based Ensemble Maraguán repeats its successes in Europe during its 12th tour across this continent, and it was highly appreciated after its performance at the 50th Festival de Confolens, France.

Formed basically by students of the University of Camagüey, located some 530 kilometres east of Havana, the ensemble received continuous enthusiastic ovations in the abovementioned festival, one of the oldest international events on folklore and traditions.

Delegations from all over the world attended this non competitive fête, where Maraguán danced La chancleta, Cubanísimo, Por los campos de mi Cuba, Homenaje, Caribe soy, and Abakuá.

The square opposite the city hall -with a capacity of 5000 people- was the stage in which the opening and closing ceremonies were held, as choreographer and conductor Fernando Medrano relates in a message.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is one of the sponsoring bodies of the Festival of Confolens. At the moment Maraguán attends La Ville de Cugand, where another artistic event is underway.

It is possible that during Maraguán attendance in France, the ensemble takes part in the Dijon International Folklore Festival Competitions, in which the Cuban dancers won the silver medal in 2003.

This contest is considered one of the most important folkdance events worldwide.

Founded in 1981, the ensemble also performed in Belgium during the current tour.
