Youth and Student Festival to take place in Caracas

More than 2,000 students from 120 countries will meet this month in Caracas, Venezuela, for the world festival of youth students and to discuss the options of the next generation.

Abraham Carrillo, member of the national leadership of the Cuban Young Communist League, said to Prensa Latina news agency that the encounter, scheduled to run from August 23 to 27, was agreed to be held in Caracas at the previous festival in 2005.

Carrillo said the decision to hold the festival celebrating the 60th anniversary 60 of the youth and student festival was adopted in response to a proposal from the president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, who offered his country as the site for the gathering.

Carrillo stressed that youth participation will be directed at the struggles of people for their emancipation and education, and against the presence of American military bases around the world, among other issues.

The Venezuelan leader youth remarked that the gathering will strengthen the relationships between youth groups, as part of the struggle against imperialism that marks the history of the World Festival of Youth and Students.

The encounter, he specified, is organized by the Francisco Front of Miranda, the Communist Youth of Venezuela, the National Institute of Youth, the Ezequiel Zamora National Voluntariado and the Institute of Youth in the Venezuelan state of Miranda.
