Cuban poet Fina Garcia Marruz to receive Pablo Neruda Award
The Tenth Ibero-American Conference of Culture Ministers, which began Thursday in the port city of Valparaiso, Chile, will be the perfect setting in which to honor acclaimed Cuban writer Fina Garcia Marruz.

During Fridays conferences final session, the author of Las miradas perdidas and Visitaciones will be presented the Pablo Neruda Ibero-American Prize for Poetry. Cuban Culture Minister Abel Prieto will receive the prize in the name of Garcia Marruz.

During the Thursday opening of the conference, Chilean Culture Minister Paulina Urrutia said that the 564 million inhabitants of Ibero-America represent "an exceptional source of human resources, historic memory, patrimony, creativity and innovation."

Speaking to Culture ministers from 22 countries, Urrutia said that culture is becoming a key part of regional social policy.

Agreements reached during the conference will be contained in the Valparaiso Declaration and signed on Friday by all participating ministers.
