Books to rival sun this summer in Cuba
A "new bohemia or useful break time for Havana residents," is envisioned this summer under a summer reading campaign beginning July 6, Havana Cuba Book Institute deputy director Alpidio Alonso announced on Wednesday.

Since books and reading are part of the strategy of Cuban cultural institutions, books from libraries and bookshops will be made available to passersby in the central Vedado neighborhood in Havana.

Alonso made the announcement at a conference today at the Havana-based Pabellon Cuba exhibition center, saying Jose Saramago and Walt Whitman will invade the summer holidays.

The Vedado neighborhood is a usual recreation place for families at this time of the year, home to cinemas, the Coppelia ice-cream parlor, galleries, theaters, parks and the famous Malecon (seawall), and now books.
