Cuba and Malaysia to increase trade relations
"Cuba-Malaysia trade relations could increase over the next years," said Malaysian Chief Minister of Melaka State, Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, at the seminar "Opportunities and Potential Areas for Bilateral Cooperation" held in this capital.

The Malaysian minister noted that his state boasts of modern factories in the field of biotechnology that could establish joint ventures with Cuba to produce medicaments for that densely inhabited region.

He also stressed the possibilities to expand exchange and cooperation to other areas such as the oil industry and telecommunications.

The delegation of Malaysian businessmen was presided over by Malacca's governor Khalil Yaako who, along Mohd Rustam, received the honour of Illustrious Guests of Havana City, and held talks with Cuban authorities.

The meeting was also attended by a number of representatives of Cuban ministries and enterprises, Asian businessmen, and the Malaysian ambassador to Cuba Zainol Abidin Omar.

Malacca State is bounded by the capital Kuala Lumpur to the north and by Singapore to the south. It has four ports and one international airport. It has attained a remarkable development in the fields of sciences and technology over the last ten years.
